Bank indicators: the Central Bank IF.data
For each listed bank that the Central Bank of Brazil tracks, we keep as the source publishes it, without recomputing,
five figures per quarter: capital (Basel) ratio, delinquency over 90 days, loan book, net income and equity. They appear in
the "Central Bank indicators" block of the stock page, on /bancos (banks side by side) and in the JSON routes
/bancos/series (all) and /bancos/TICKER (one).
Source
Central Bank of Brazil — IF.data ("Selected data on financial institutions"), through the Olinda API, service IFDATA
(olinda.bcb.gov.br/olinda/servico/IFDATA/versao/v1/odata): IfDataCadastro (the quarter's institutions, with the leader's
tax id and the group code) and IfDataValores (the balance of each column of the "Summary" report). Dataset on the open data
portal: dadosabertos.bcb.gov.br/dataset/ifdata---dados-selecionados-de-instituies-financeiras. Quarterly; the Central Bank
publishes 60 days after March, June and September and 90 days after December. The Central Bank's own methodology is the PDF
"IFData - Esclarecimentos e Metodologia" on the portal.
Licence
Checked before publishing: the dataset declares the Open Data Commons Open Database License (ODbL 1.0) on the Central Bank open data portal. Free use, including commercial, citing the Central Bank as the source and sharing the derived database on the same terms. Every page and JSON answer carries the source, the licence link and a ready-to-cite sentence.
How our bank matches the Central Bank's
By tax id (CNPJ), never by name: the 8-digit root of the company's CNPJ at the CVM is compared with the leader's CNPJ of the prudential group in the IF.data register. A bank with no match does not appear, rather than appear with someone else's figures. Several share classes (ITUB3 and ITUB4) show the same series, because the bank is one.
What the figure is, and is not
- It is the prudential group figure (the perimeter the Central Bank supervises). It can differ from the consolidated statements the company files with the CVM, so net income and equity here may not match the fundamentals page; the two live in separate blocks, each with its source. No Central Bank figure enters any indicator of ours.
- Money values are the report's, in R$ thousand; pages show R$ billion (the only calculation: dividing by one million).
- Net income: the Summary report column, unadjusted; check the Central Bank methodology on within-year accumulation before adding or comparing quarters.
- The
/bancostable is ordered by loan book size, which says nothing about quality. Nothing here is investment advice.
When the source fails
Each collection is isolated: if the Central Bank service errors, the quarters already stored stay as they were, nothing is deleted and the build inherits from the previous database what the source did not return. A value outside a plausible range (capital ratio between 0 and 100%, for example) rejects the whole quarter, because it is a misreading, not economics.
